The cover of this comic was previously also alluded to in the 2016 DCEU film Suicide Squad. Like the Gotham episode Ruin, the one-shot comic took place during the No Man's Land crisis. Batman: Harley Quinn marked the first appearance of Harley Quinn in main DC comics continuity.

The scene in which Jeremiah and Ecco dance at the Soothsayers' lair is a reference to the iconic cover of the 1999 one-shot comic Batman: Harley Quinn, which pictured the Joker and Harley Quinn in a similar dancing pose.

Jeremiah Valeska's hat highly resembles one of the hats Joker was seen wearing in the 1988 graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke.

This episode would have featured the final appearance of Anthony Carrigan as Victor Zsasz, however after FOX granted Gotham two additional episodes for the fifth season, this allowed Carrigan to reprise the role for the final time in " Legend of the Dark Knight: The Trial of Jim Gordon".

These posters were last seen when Penguin ran for mayor during Season 3. They can be seen in the Upper East Side territory of Victor Zsasz.

This episode literally takes place right after the events of " Legend of the Dark Knight: Penguin, Our Hero", picking up mere seconds after the destruction of Haven at the end of the last episode.Meanwhile, Bruce and Alfred track down Selina, who follows Ecco to Jeremiah, and she manages to stab him repeatedly before being rescued by Bruce and Alfred.
