The MDE development paradigm makes the model the first class citizen of development processes. Of course, MARTE provides support for enabling model driven engineering (MDE) of RTE systems. This UML profile consists of specific concepts defined to cope with. In order to fill this lack, OMG has standardized a UML extension, called MARTE. However, this language has been designed as a general purpose modeling language that may lack for modeling constructs for specific domain, as for the real-time embedded (RTE) domain. The UML is now the most widespread language for systems modeling. This paper describes the ACCORD/UML approach that was originally designed to lighten the daily workload of automotive engineers by relieving them of need for real-time ex- pertise. However, these are not yet entirely satisfactory, since they still require advanced real-time development skills. For real- time domain applications, engineers may already be using model-orientated approaches ((1), (2), …). The latest OMG initiative, called MDA - for "Model Driven Architec- ture" - advances the idea of using a combination of the model paradigm and various underlying technologies, to offer solutions to this challenge. can focus on the added value of their prod- ucts.

This situation urgently requires new ways of thinking about software devel- opment, with the primary objective of minimizing development efforts wher- ever possible, so that engineers. Engineers must therefore face the challenge of being both business experts and advanced software developers. Industrial competition is intensifying and products are becoming ever more complex and software-intensive. This work makes a provocative argument that many of the modern EAFs are not suited for an SDE due to their affiliation to software technologies that are found to has several limitations. Further, this paper surveys salient aspects of different software technologies and provide an assessment framework to compare them and conclude suitability of agent technology for realising information system infrastructure of an SDE. This paper provides a rationale and attributes based evaluation of popular EAFs and conclude superiority of Zachman framework (ZF) for a software-driven enterprise (SDE). There is no explicit guidance or justifiable rationale available to choose an EAF over others.

But there is a confusing variety of EAFs for organisations to choose from. It explicitly documents information generation, processing and consumption pattern facilitating communication and management. Enterprise architecture frameworks (EAFs) provide tools and methods to categorise, document and depict interrelationship between enterprise business processes, stakeholders and information classes.
